Vintage Boujaad Rug - Atlas Mountains, Central Morocco
Symbolism: Talisman Path
The geometry in this piece tells a specific story of the weaver’s environment and heritage:
The Zigzag Diamond: By shaping the central diamonds with zigzags, the weaver combines two powerful symbols. The Diamond represents the female form and fertility, while the Zigzag (the "Saw") represents water and the continuity of life. Together, they symbolize the sustaining force of the family.
The "S" Border: The "S" shape is a traditional Berber symbol known as the Serrar. It is often interpreted as a representation of a stylized bird or a hook, used as a protective talisman to ward off the "Evil Eye" and trap good fortune within the home.
The Palette: The grounding brown represents the earth and stability, while the magenta and duck egg blue provide a celestial contrast, representing joy and the sky.
Material: 100% Organic Highland Wool; hand-spun and dyed.
Dimensions: 340cm x 220cm
