Boujaad Moroccan Rug - Atlas Mountains, Central Morocco
With a balanced heart that hails from the Atlas Mountains of Central Morocco, this Boujaad rug strikes a beautiful chord between structured symmetry and experimental artistry. Resting on a warm apricot-peach base, the center of the rug features five primary diamonds—four placed with precision at the corners of a central square, with one final diamond anchored in the middle. This "quintet" arrangement provides a grounded focal point to a piece otherwise defined by its rare and shifting "painterly" borders.
Symbolism: The Five Points & The Protected Grid
The design of this piece acts as a map of both the physical and spiritual world:
The Five Diamonds: This specific placement (four surrounding one) is a traditional Berber representation of the home as the center of the universe, protected from all four cardinal directions. The magenta, teal, and purple tones within these diamonds represent the vibrant life force within those walls.
The "Micro-Diamond" Inner Frame: A true collector’s detail, this inner frame shifts colours—magenta and teal on one side, purple and light brown on the other. Punctuated by tiny "seed" diamonds, it represents the weaver's changing perspective during the months it took to knot.
The Outer Border: The outermost layer features magenta geometric lines crossing over a "hashtag" style grid. This represents the protective gate or fence, a symbolic barrier that ensures the harmony of the central "five diamonds" remains undisturbed.
Palette: Apricot Peach, Magenta, Teal, Purple, and Light Brown.
Material: 100% Organic Highland Wool; hand-dyed with natural pigments.
Dimensions: 315cm x 190cm
